Interesting facts about Spain

General Franco was born into a naval family and  went into the military in the  1920's. He quickly advanced up the ranks and became a general. In the 1931 Spain changed from Monarchy  to a republic which Franco disagreed with. Once he came into power he was the Spanish Hitler and Spain was once again a monarchy, albeit with a ilitary dictator in place of a monarch.

Due to the differences of opinions of the various  political parties at the  time, (just prior to Franco coming into power) Franco made friends with Hitler and Musilini. Both countries provided Franco with funds during the Spanish civial war which allowed him to take power over Spain and become a dictator in 1939. Hilter provided 25 tanks and weaponary during the civil war which was to trial his weapons before WW2.  400,000 people died during this war.

Franco ruled till 1975 and during his reign he had 150,000 people killed.

Once in power Franco created 190 concentration camps for any people who opposed him- thats one way to deal with people who disagree with you!

Franco did not want to be a part of WW2 as although he was friends with Hitler and  Musilini, Spain was also received funds from the Allies too.

After his region the people of Spain voted to keep Spain as a monarchy but Parliament was re-opened as this was closed during Franco's time. Today's  king is a bit like the UK royal family, i.e a constitutional monarch. They are onto king number  3 since Franco passed away.
