Madrid-day 5

So we drove from Pampalona to Madrid (approx 5 - 6 hour trip). There is no where to stop really on route  so 3 and a half hours later we stopped off at a local hotel to order sandwiches in Spanish. This was also  an opportunity to  get a pic of poppies. The fields along the road are dotted with this pretty red flower.

Brandon nearly blew a gaskit at this point due to no one on tour attempting to speak Spanish to a poor waitress who could not understand much English trying to take orders for 40 people.

After getting to Madrid, a quick drive by and shooting occured ( you quickly drive past all the big highlights of the city  and point and shoot with your camera and hope it doesn't come out blurry whilst trying to remember  all the info about important  dates, people and events). We seriously look like tourists!

One of the photos we took was of a monument in Central Madrid of Cervantes with his famous characters Don Quixote and Pacho (not a great photo from the phone, we have better ones on the cameras):

After this we had a quick hour to get changed, wash cloths etc. before a guided walking tour of the city and dinner at a renouned resturant for more wine, tappas (suckling pig and vegetarian paella) and sangria.

The walking tour was interesting but the same time confronting due to all the references to bull fighting.

As a special treat before dinner our tour guide MJ arranged a glass of sangria and some gazpacho at this place:

You can imagine how thrilled Nicky was to be here.....

Dinner was amazing, there was far too much food and wine, we were calling for litters to carry us out.

Cheers,

Nicolette and Brandon
